The 2024 Anzac Day Virtual Marathon and Marathon event has now concluded with 103 officially registered participants = over 4,346km, 14 sponsors, 40 individual donations and over 70 singlets/t-shirt out there!

Anzac Day is a day to pause and remember all the servicemen and women who have served our country. It is a day to come together and honour our veterans. Our event is a way for each of us to show our appreciation during April and keep each other motivated and moving.

On Anzac Day I was honoured to lay a wreath for my GrandPa and on behalf of all of you and your families at the Runaway Bay RSL dawn service. I was asked to stand up in front of everyone at the dawn service and share our event and it was also an opportunity to thank Runaway Bay RSL for allowing us to be involved before we head off on the annual marathon. 

We had a group of 20 leave from Runaway Bay cenotaph at 6am with Bruce, the President waving us off. Smiles all round as the group ran the 8km to Southport then onto Surfers Paradise. A few photos at the Surfers Paradise memorial, which is 14km, then along the Ocean path to Hedges, Miami, North Burleigh and arriving at the Burleigh cenotaph just before their morning march. This is 25km, we grabbed a drink and lollies and left here at 9:15am. The day was warming up and there were lots of people out & about. The shade along Jefferson Lane, Palm Beach was welcomed. Only a quick pic near Currumbin RSL as we made our way through the crowd gathering for their morning march. Hitting almost 35km coming into Elephant Rock at 10:35am, we were feeling the heat but also knew we were on the countdown. It was hot & tough with some walking along the exposed path from Currumbin to Kirra. The last kilometre felt so long! It was such an amazing feeling to arrive at Chris Cunningham Park at Coolangatta/Tweed morning service and completing the marathon distance at 11:37am. With me on the day, were 5 other runners to finish the marathon and 2 bike riders. We dig deep, feel the Anzac spirit, strength and mate-ship on this run.

All proceeds of this event are donated directly to Runaway Bay, Surfers Paradise & Mudgeeraba Robina RSL Sub Branches. I will update on the grand total as soon as finalised and I look forward to presenting each with their donation.
